Greece Wins
Masters of
Pastry 2021.

On Thursday May 20, Giannis Tsichlis and Vagelis Kallioras have been crowned Masters of Pastry 2021.

After a two-day action-packed final, the team from Greece triumphed over Karol Płachta and Urszula Bartecka-Matuszewska from Poland and Fabio Ferrari with Valentina Scanavacca from Italy.

In line with this year’s theme of Design in Pastry, the teams were challenged to combine unique shapes, with the right flavour pairing, appealing colours and selected textures. Their uniquely crafted applications were judged by jury members Willem Verlooy and Ramon Huigsloot, and online by the more than 2,000 pastry professionals who registered to watch the event.

With the Polish team winning the categories of Best Fine Pastry Cake with their Tarte Nature and Best concept & storytelling, and with the Greek team winning the snack-on-the-go award with their Piña Colada Taco, and the category of Best performing skills, it came down to the wire between these two teams.

And even for the viewers it was almost too close to call. In the end, by the tiniest of margins, the Greek team was victorious due to the audience’s vote and were crowned this year’s Masters of Pastry, winning an exclusive training at Le Cordon Bleu.
